Getting Started & Sizing
How do I know what size aerator I need?
Pond size and average depth drive the sizing decision — a bigger surface area and a deeper water column both need more air moving through the diffuser to turn over the whole pond, not just the surface. Our Pond Volume Calculator converts your pond's dimensions into surface acres and acre-feet in a few seconds; from there, ponds up to about an acre typically do fine on a single-panel solar system, 1–2 acres calls for a dual-diffuser setup, and 2–5+ acres needs a higher-output system. If you're between tiers or your pond has an unusual shape, call us before you order — we'd rather talk it through than have you guess.
Solar vs. AC — which is right for my pond?
Solar aerators run on their own panel with no wiring back to a power source, which makes them the simpler install for ponds that are off-grid or far from an outlet — and they keep running through power outages. AC aerators draw continuous, weather-independent power, which can mean higher and steadier output for ponds that need to run at full capacity around the clock regardless of sun exposure. If your pond gets good sun and you'd rather avoid trenching power out to it, start with solar; if the pond is shaded or needs to run 24/7 at full output, AC is usually the more practical choice.
Installation
Do I need an electrician to install a solar aerator?
Most solar aerator kits are built for a property owner comfortable with basic hand tools — mounting the panel, running the airline, and placing the diffuser don't involve any household wiring. AC systems tie into your electrical system and should be installed or at least connected by a licensed electrician, both for safety and to keep the manufacturer warranty intact.
How far can the diffuser be from the panel or compressor?
Every system ships with airline rated for a specific maximum run, since air pressure drops the farther it travels — the spec sheet on each product page lists the rated distance for that model. If your planned diffuser placement is close to that limit, call or email us first so we can confirm the compressor will still deliver enough pressure at that distance.
Maintenance
How often should I service my compressor?
A quick visual and listening check every few months catches most issues early — unusual noise, a warm housing, or a drop in bubble output are the first signs something needs attention. Beyond that, we recommend a full inspection of the compressor, fittings, and airline once a year, ideally at the start of the growing season.
When does the diffuser membrane need replacing?
Diffuser membranes wear from the inside out — the tell-tale sign is fewer, larger bubbles instead of the fine bubble curtain a new membrane produces. In most ponds that works out to roughly an annual replacement, though sediment, water chemistry, and total run hours all shift that timeline. We stock replacement membranes and service kits sized to each diffuser we sell.
Solar-Specific
Does the aerator run at night or on cloudy days?
Solar-Direct systems run only while the panel is generating power, so output follows the sun — full speed on a clear day, slower under heavy overcast, and off overnight, the same as any panel-direct solar equipment without a battery. If your pond needs aeration around the clock regardless of weather or time of day, look at a battery-backup or AC system instead — we carry both.
What happens in winter?
Aeration is exactly what keeps a hole open in the ice and lets trapped gases escape, so most customers run their solar aerator or a dedicated de-icer straight through winter rather than shutting it down. Shorter, lower-angle winter sun does mean less panel output, so a de-icer or a system sized with some headroom holds an opening more reliably through a hard freeze than one sized right at the edge of its capacity for open-water months.
Ordering & Shipping
How is my system shipped?
Systems ship boxed direct from our supplier's warehouse via standard ground freight, typically arriving in more than one package for larger kits — panel, compressor, and diffuser/airline are often boxed separately. You'll get tracking information as soon as your order leaves the warehouse.
What's covered under warranty?
Every system we sell carries the manufacturer's standard warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Ask us for the specific term and coverage for the model you're considering, or reach out any time after your purchase if something isn't working right — we'll help get it resolved.
